Acclyptic Care and Community takes the privacy and security of personal and health information seriously. This page explains how information submitted through this website is handled and provides additional information about the emergency information key-ring program.
Website forms
Information submitted through the enquiry, feedback and complaints forms is used to respond to the submission, discuss support, recognise staff, investigate concerns and improve services where appropriate.
Feedback and complaint submissions may contain personal, service or health-related information. Acclyptic handles this information for the purpose for which it was provided and in accordance with its privacy, record-management and information-security obligations.
Emergency information key ring
The Acclyptic emergency information key ring contains Acclyptic contact details and an invitation for a first responder to call us. No personal or health information is printed on the key ring itself.
If an Acclyptic client cannot communicate in an emergency, our team may be asked for limited information held in the client’s care record. A caller is not automatically entitled to a client’s full record. Any disclosure must be considered in the circumstances, including the identity and role of the caller, the immediate need, the information that is relevant, the client’s privacy choices and applicable privacy law.
Information that may be most relevant to a first responder
Where disclosure is appropriate and lawful, Acclyptic’s focus is on the minimum information that may help with the immediate situation. This will usually be limited to:
- known allergies recorded with Acclyptic
- the client’s nominated emergency contact
- mobility information relevant to the immediate situation
- current medications where relevant and where Acclyptic holds reliable current information
Other information would only be considered where it is directly relevant to the immediate circumstances and disclosure is appropriate and lawful.
Privacy principles and information security
Australian Privacy Principle guidance from the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner recognises circumstances in which personal information may be used or disclosed for a secondary purpose where it is unreasonable or impracticable to obtain the individual’s consent and the entity reasonably believes the use or disclosure is necessary to lessen or prevent a serious threat to life, health or safety. That guidance does not provide automatic access to a client’s record; the circumstances still need to be assessed and only relevant information should be considered for disclosure.
Acclyptic also recognises the importance of telling clients how their information is collected and may be used or disclosed, and of taking reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
